Congratulations!

Congrats to all students that tested in November.  We have a few things to correct but overall the testing was a success.  Due to the number of students eligible to test in February, testing will be on a Saturday. The following students are eligible for black belt ranking:  Mrs. Ragone – 4th degree; Ms. Matos – 3rd degree; Ms. Chamberlin and Mr. Ostrander – 2nd degree.  All students should train hard and start preparing now!

Payment World Camp – Dec 10th:

The first payment for the USTF World Camp to be held at Snow Mountain Ranch in Colorado from July 10th-15th 2016 is due.  The initial deposit is $250 per person, which covers housing, meals, t-shirt and training.  The flyer is posted on the Axe TKD website.  Last year 11 students attended, and we are excited to have even more interested this year.  A large group from Australia will be in attendance again.  This is a wonderful opportunity to be submerged in not only TKD but different students around the world.  Complete your registration form and turn into Sr. Master Todd by the 10th.  Credit card information, if desired is located on the registration form.

Axe Black Belt Luncheon Dec 19th:

The Annual Black Belt Holiday luncheon will be held on Saturday, December 19th from 12pm (noon) – 2pm.  Please RSVP to Sr. Master Todd at ustfneb@cox.net.  This luncheon is open to all active Axe Taekwon-Do black belts and paid for by Axe TKD.  The location will be Pizza Ranch in Papillion.  We have a private room reserved.  The flyer is posted on the Axe TKD website.

Axe Family Class Party Dec 22nd:

Our Annual Holiday Party will be held on Tuesday, December 22nd from 545pm to 830pm at the Youth Center.  All Axe TKD students and their families are invited to attend.  We will have our 2nd Annual chili contest and the winner will receive a free month of class.  We hope to see plenty of entries.  Once the winner has been announced, the chili will be shared as part of the meal.  Please contact Mrs. Duralia and Mrs. Chamberlin to sign up to bring items.  Additionally, there is a voluntary “White Elephant Gift Exchange Party”.  A detailed flyer for this event is posted on the Axe TKD website.

No Class – December 24th, 29th and 31st:

Get your calendars ready!

Axe has a full year of TKD excitement planned in 2016!  Final dates are still being coordinated, but the year will begin with a promotion testing in February.  The remaining testing dates will be scheduled in late May/early June, August, and November.  Also in February, students will travel to attend the USTF Instructors Course in Missouri. Those students who interested in competing in tournaments will have the following opportunities: Arvada, CO in March for the Maestas TKD tournament; Axe TKD home tournament in May; and our busiest month, September with a tournament in Casper, WY and Kirksville, MO. Tournament travel commences in October with travel to Broomfield, CO for the annual USTF tournament. Most importantly, in July we will travel for a week of training for the USTF World Camp. Pay attention in class and to our website as details for each event are finalized!

Training Supplies by Sr. Master Todd:

Are you curious about what you may need to purchase to be successful in Taekwon-Do?  You can start slowly and build your TKD supplies.  Obviously, you need to purchase a uniform called a dobok.  We keep a majority of sizes in stock.  For students that have been in TKD for some time you will want to consider purchasing a new uniform.  Your uniform must be worn with pride and be free of stains, tears, etc.  As you earn rank, you are required to wear all approved patches. The American flag and Axe TKD patch are given to new students with the purchase with their dobok.  Additional patches can be purchased at an extra cost.  The USTF and ITF patches are given to students when they join the USTF, around yellow belt green stripe You can join prior to this rank if desired.  Once you are a member the patches must be added to the uniform.

Why do we still wear the ITF patch if we are in the USTF.  While we are no longer members of the ITF, we still wear the patch under the direction of Sr. Grand Master Sereff to honor the founder of Taekwon-Do, General Choi who passed away in 2002.

Other patches such as the USTF instructor patch, USTF referee patch, and instructor flashes are to be attached upon successful completion of the required courses.

You will be issued your belt after the completion of a successful testing.  This is the only belt you are provided so don’t lose it.  If it frays, tears or becomes discolored, it is not replaced nor is it to be washed.  A worn black belt is a sign that the owner is a hard training and dedicated student.   Treat your belt with pride, while it can be tattered and worn, it should never be lost or lay on the ground.  Also, belts are not to be worn outside of the do-jang or without your uniform.  While students can be proud of their rank, they are also to be discrete and humble.

Books available are the USTF Gup testing requirement book, USTF Black Belt testing requirement book, USTF Patterns workout book, USTF Step Sparring requirement book and USTF Tournament Rules & Regulations book.  We do provide an initial study guide but after about 3 months of training students should purchase the USTF Gup testing requirement book.  Every student above the rank of yellow belt should own this book.  Students should consider purchasing the USTF Patterns workout book, especially around the end of your first year of training. All black belts should purchase the USTF Black Belt testing requirement book.  The USTF Step Sparring book is available in class for reference.  Students that participate in the USTF Referee course are provided the USTF Tournament Rules & Regulations book.

Sparring gear is also necessary as students start sparring.  You can borrow the school gear but most students prefer their own gear.  We require foot gear, hand gear, head gear, mouthpiece and protective cup (males) for all students sparring.

We do keep some of these supplies on hand and they can be purchased from Mr. Bushor at any time.

If at any time you have questions about any of the supplies that are available to you, ask me or any black belt.  I look forward to the continuation of your training and the next year in the growth of Axe Taekwon-Do.
