Tournaments:

This weekend we have a tournament in Casper, Wyoming. We will leave early Friday at 5am and return Sunday evening. There is still time to join in the festivities! Please let Senior Master Todd know if you are interested in attending.   Next weekend we have another tournament in Kirksville, Missouri. We will leave Saturday at 4am and return Sunday.   If you have to choose a tournament to attend, this will be the one for you! Next month we will travel for the last tournament of the year in Denver, Colorado. If you plan on going to any please let Sr. Master Todd know so we can arrange the rides and rooms.  You can email ustfneb@cox.net.

Promotion Testing September 3rd:

Axe Taekwon-Do held a promotion testing earlier this month.  Promoted to new black belt ranks were; Mr. James Bushor, IV Dan; Mr. Donald Duralia, II Dan; Mr. Ryne Cohenour, I Dan; Mr. William Duralia, I Dan; and Mrs. Sheila Duralia, I Dan. This is a great accomplishment for all who tested. The testing signifies a big step from assistant instructor to instructor for Mr. Bushor.  Mr. Duralia, D. has moved up the ranks, one step closer to becoming an instructor.  Mr. Cohenour, Mr. Duralia, W., and Mrs. Duralia are now classified as assistant instructors. Congratulations to all colored belts that tested! It is always nerve wracking to test, but you all pulled through and made it to your next rank. For those that did not test this time, it just means you will have more practice for the next testing. When you get into the higher ranking color belts there is more information you are expected to know and perform, so taking extra time will make you a better martial artist in both knowledge and performing the requirements.

5th Annual Axe Taekwon-Do Bike Ride/Walk:

Axe Taekwon-Do held our annual bike ride/walk. Thank you for all who made it out to support the class! It was a great day for a bike ride. Those of us that wore  a fit- bit to track our progress, definitely made all of our goals that day! We will have one next year and hope to see you out there.

Axe Taekwon-Do Website & Facebook:

We have a website at www.axetkd.com and are listed on Facebook at AXE Taekwon-Do.  We post all newsletters from Axe Taekwon-Do and from the USTF on the website and many other items are on the website.  One area of interest is the black belt profiles.  It is a good place to learn a little more about some of the people that are instructing you.  We post numerous pictures on Facebook from testings, tournaments, etc.  I often hear, “I am not on Facebook”.  Well for us as a Taekwon-Do school and business it is much easier to post pictures, and we can allow others to post.   Just look around and enjoy our pictures.  You can actually look around at our pictures without joining Facebook.  Remember however if you post or comment that we have an international audience viewing our comments and pictures, observe strict etiquette at all times.  Taekwon-Do students must be polite ladies and gentlemen at all times regardless of rank or age.

Recruiting (By Sr. Master Todd):

Axe Taekwon-Do students, I am requesting your assistance in helping our school to grow.  Sr. Grand Master Sereff often mentions that when he promotes someone to black belt, he personally challenges them with bringing a student to class that will join.  I would challenge all students to try and bring someone to class.  Some of you have brought me some excellent students over the years.  We don’t advertise in the paper and the Youth Center doesn’t advertise much either.  I have taught classes where I had 10 students and where I had over 80 students.  Larger classes offer a better learning experience, different people to work with, etc.  I challenge all of you THIS year.  Bring someone to the class.  Remember, we can now have people come in and sit down to watch the class.  The old policy of no one in there watching is over.  Help me to spread the art of Taekwon-Do!

Class Times (By Sr. Master Todd):

I have the classes arranged for 530, 630 and 730 start times.  In order to balance the student numbers we try to keep the 530-630 class filled with white belt through yellow belt green stripes.  The 630-730 class should mainly be for green belt through blue belt red stripes and the 730-830 class for red belt and above.  However, I allow any students to attend “double classes”, by attending both the 630 and 730 classes.  When you observe certain black belts and color belts you will notice different levels of proficiency.  Students who stand out with their technical skill and do the best at tournaments and testing are typically those students that attend the “double classes”.  They don’t get promoted any faster, but they are better martial artists because they train more.  The real secret to training is to train more!  We are there to assist you.

Open Invitation:

Remember the Axe Taekwon-Do policy is that all former students are welcome to return to training at any time.  It doesn’t matter if they have only been away for a couple months or many years.  Unless the students were released for misconduct they can return at any time, no questions asked.   So if you see any former students, ask how they are doing and invite them back to class.

2016 World Camp:

The contract has been signed with the YMCA of the Rockies for the 2016 Sereff World Camp! Mark your calendar for July 10th thru 15th.  Arrival will be 3:00pm, first meal dinner, and leaving on July 15th after breakfast. There are only 105 slots so let Senior Master Todd know if you are interested in attending.  We expect registration paperwork to be made available soon! Plan to spend a week in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado with your USTF brothers and sisters!  We had a great showing at the 2014 World Camp and expect to have a great showing from Axe Taekwon-Do again.

Newsletters:

We encourage any student or parent to submit articles for inclusion in the newsletter. Especially with all of the upcoming events, it would be nice to see students writing about their experiences.  There are many new students that may want to hear what they can look forward to in class and at tournaments! Students of any age/ rank can type up their story and submit it, or parents that would like to send one or more in. They will be reviewed by Senior Master Todd before they are placed in nerve wracking the Axe Taekwon-Do Newsletter.
